1 – KARI KARI. Natural site recognized for its picturesque landscapes and natural beauty. Visitors often love Kari Kari for its spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding cliffs, ideal for photography enthusiasts. The place is ideal for a short and very easy walk.
2 – ANA KAKENGA. Also known as “the cave of the two windows”, Ana Kakenga is one of several volcanic tunnels on the island and stands out especially for its two openings that face the Pacific Ocean, offering spectacular and unique views. Once inside, visitors can explore the underground passageway to two natural ‘windows’ that open onto sheer cliffs and offer stunning views of the sea and waves crashing against the rocks below.
Depart at 9:30 am or 2:00 pm from your accommodation.
• Short drive from your accommodation to the halfway point to Rano Kau, Rapa Nui’s second volcano (10 minutes). Then the walk begins.
• After walking through a guava hedge, then under the auspices of eucalyptus trees, we reached the edge of the immense Rano Kau crater that houses a petroglyph hidden within its walls.
• The road then takes us to the southern end, the last land wall before the Pacific Ocean. Magnificent panoramic view with the 3 islets below!
• We will take the car back to the coast, north of the town, for the second leg of this walk. Access to Ana Kakenga is through a small entrance, so it is necessary to crawl to enter the main tunnel.
