Tour in English on Easter Island
Rapa Nui tourist circuit
A great island classic: its journey. But in Rapa Nui it acquires a very special character. It is on the coastal edge where the Neolithic platforms were built on which the large statues, the Moai, were erected.
The archaeological sites of Easter Island scattered along the basaltic coasts are constantly subjected to the onslaught of the waves of the Pacific Ocean. They are not eternal. We will analyze its complexity and meaning throughout this day.
Available all year round, it is the first part of the tour T1 – THE BIG TOUR that is only offered in summer. By booking your first day with the tour T3 – THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES your program is complete.

7 sites on the program for this day.
1 – ANAKENA. Postcard atmosphere for the beginning of this guided tour in English. The one of the two white sand beaches on Easter Island today saw the landing and installation of the first human colonies that set foot on this small piece of land in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. Its beautiful restored platform houses several very well preserved Moai.
2 – TE PITO KURA. The second archaeological site visited, this time unrestored, houses a single stone giant: the largest Moai, erected on an altar, is probably the last one on the entire island that remained standing. A stone charged with magnetism seems to protect the place.
3 – PAPA VAKA. This large basaltic outcrop, just a stone’s throw from the seashore, concentrates a large area of petroglyphs. In relation to the immediate oceanic environment, depictions of sea creatures sit alongside those of traditional Polynesian fishhooks and canoes.
4 – PU O HIRO. Just before touring the Poike peninsula (northeast part of Easter Island), a stone wind instrument was placed on the side of the road. Traces of the past.
5 – TONGARIKI. A splendid restored megalithic site, it is one of the most popular visits. Its gigantism has no equal in all of Polynesia. 15 Moai, weighing hundreds of tons, placed on an elevated platform next to the sea, surprise their guests who come from all over the world to admire them every day.
6 – RANO RARAKU. It is one of the most emblematic sites of Easter Island. This volcano has seen hundreds of Moai emerge from its walls, sculpted on its sides. The huge blocks of stone carved from the volcanic tuff, some still attached to the volcano, impress as much as they fascinate. These stone giants continue to enthuse visitors.
7 – VAIHU. Reconstruction of an old Rapanui village with houses, stone gardens and traditional chicken coops.
This great day trip begins with a very short drive (a few minutes) from your accommodation to the most important restored site in Hanga Roa village, the Tahai ceremonial complex. Visit and explanation of the architectural layout of the community: Ahu (sacred platform), Moai, remains of the ancient town.
Then we will take the Easter Island crossing to head to the front of Rapa Nui, and more precisely to Anakena, the island’s large white sand beach. Theater of the first arrivals, the place also houses one of the most beautiful platforms, with its Moai topped.
The circuit continues for an hour towards the eastern part of Easter Island with successions of archaeological remains, petroglyphs and enchanting landscapes to reach the foot of the island’s first volcano, Poike.
After passing through its base, we will reach the largest archaeological site on Easter Island and also in all of Polynesia: Tongariki. 15 Moai face visitors and witness the gigantism of this amazing megalithic civilization. Awesome !
Then, a few kilometers from Tongariki, is Rano Raraku, the volcano that houses the quarry where the stone giants were carved.
